Dr. Matthew C. Ercolani, MD

Matthew C. Ercolani, M.D. is a Board Certified Urologist who is Fellowship trained in Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery. He is also a newly appointed Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has served as the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at Venice Regional Bayfront Health for the past 3 years and is an active member of several hospital committees. He is a member of the American Urological Association, American College of Surgeons, Alpha Omega Alpha, Sexual Medicine Society of North America, the Endourological Society, and the Society of Robotic Surgery. Currently he is a full-time staff member of Venice Regional Bayfront Health. Dr. Ercolani has published more than 20 articles and abstracts in the urologic and radiologic literature. Every year, he attends academic urology meetings around the world to keep his finger on the pulse of the latest advances in urologic surgery and patient care and maintain working relationships with the best urologists in America and abroad. Most recently, he has been at meetings in New Orleans, Istanbul, Paris, and Glasgow. Dr. Ercolani received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1996. He then received his Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences from New York University in 1999, and completed his Doctorate in Medicine at the State University of New York – Downstate College of Medicine in 2004. After finishing medical school, he moved on to his specialty training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He completed his preliminary studies in General Surgery in 2006, followed by his Urology residency in 2010. He then went to Europe for his Fellowship in Laparoscopic and Robotic Urology at the Department of Urology at the Institute Mutualiste Montsouris (IMM), completing his studies in April 2011. Since then, he has been a partner at RTR Urology here in Venice

Dr. Ercolani specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery in the areas of prostate, kidney, bladder, and female pelvic reconstructive surgery. He also has extensive experience with state of the art treatment modalities for overactive bladder and urinary problems caused by enlarged prostate, already becoming one of the noted surgeons in the US performing InterStim™ sacral nerve modulation therapy implantation (top 10% in the country), GreenLight XPS™ laser vaporization of the prostate (top 10 in the country – more than 400 procedures performed), and Urolift™ surgery for BPH (top 10 in the country). He serves as a proctor for Intuitive Surgical daVinci™ robotic surgery, InterStim™, GreenLight XPS™and Urolift™ - teaching surgeons from around the country how to perform these cutting edge treatments.

The son of esteemed kidney specialist Dr. Louis Ercolani of MGH in Boston, Dr. Ercolani was born in New York City and grew up in Michigan before returning to the metropolitan New York area for his medical training. After studying in France at the IMM (one of the premiere laparoscopic training centers for Urology in the world), he and his wife Jennifer moved to Venice to begin their life together in beautiful Gulf Coast Florida. The Ercolani’s are life-long lovers of outdoor activities, the sun, and the sea. They are also cooking and wine enthusiasts and avid travelers. Dr. Ercolani’s better half Jennifer is a celebrated professional photographer who has traveled the world, had her work published in several magazines and online publications, and won Planet Magazine’s Global Travel Photo Contest in 2011. She has her own photography company, LifeStepsPhoto, which specializes in wedding, family, and events photography and provides services to the greater Venice and Sarasota community. Some of her work can be found on display in our waiting room.

Jennifer and Matt recently purchased a house in the area and look forward to raising their family here in Venice and being a part of the community for many years to come.
